As most of you will know yoga is a very big part of my life; it has taught me and continues to teach me the benefits of a calm, clear mind.
“A pure mind can reflect the beauty in the world around it, and when the mind is still, the beauty of the self, or soul, is seen reflected in it.” B.K.S. Iyengar
When people ask me why I practice yoga; I often find it hard to put into words – why do I sit on my mat each day, practice, practice and practice, meditate and simply breathe – and I think the main reason is it allows me to learn more about me, it helps me become a better person, it makes me see with my ‘eyes wide open’ and most importantly, it makes me so very grateful each and every day to recognise the privilege of simply being alive; something we can all so readily take for granted.
I recently read these Yoga Vows, which illustrate so clearly the beauty of yoga.
- Be patient to your restlessness
- Be kind to your body
- Be grateful for the opportunity of being here just now
- Feel driven by the unique chance to learn a little more, to know yourself a little deeper
Namaste,
